Atlanta Professional School of Bartending Practice Test

In bar terminology, "the well" refers specifically to the area where house liquor is stored for use in cocktails. This is typically the section behind the bar that hold the most frequently used spirits, such as vodka, gin, rum, whiskey, and other basic liquors. Bartenders can quickly access these spirits when preparing drinks, which helps to streamline service and increase efficiency during busy times.

The well liquor is usually of a lower price point, as it is intended for speed and volume rather than premium drink offerings. This makes it different from top-shelf liquors, which are stored separately and used for more upscale cocktails or specific orders. Having a clear understanding of the well is essential for bartenders, as it allows them to serve customers quickly without compromising the quality of the drinks made from house spirits.
